About
Through school and my career, I worked on expressing creativity in other ways — music, digital design, marketing, systems and automation design, and the list goes on — thinking that fine art wasn’t something I could do.
But something started to shift.
Our family was fortunate enough to visit Mt. Rainier the summer of 2023, and the majesty and beauty of the park hit me differently than other places I’ve visited. I’ve always loved being outdoors and visiting parks, and I enjoy few things more than a good hike or sitting in a beautiful spot to soak in the view. But something about those days around Rainier inspired me to grab a pencil and paper and begin sketching.
With more sketching, I began to appreciate the process — and even imperfections — of my sketches rather than feeling frustrated. I began to see my sketches more as a gift of time to reflect.
Time to reflect on how the majesty and design of nature makes me feel small (in a good way) and put life into context.
Time to reflect on how even the most beautiful things we can see are only a shadow of what God ultimately has in store.
Time to reflect on the value of slowing down and embracing a slow, creative process.
I hope that my work will remind you to embrace imperfections and ultimately point you to the God who has created you and the natural beauty all around us.
Subjects
My work is largely produced from the places I’ve been. Some of my favorite pieces are of trees that stood out on a hike or from hiking and backpacking trips with my family. Other pieces are from parts of our everyday life or a picture in my head.
Media & Tools
I enjoy using a variety of papers (white, ivory, tan toned, etc.). I’m currently enjoying Mitsubishi Hi-uni pencils for sketch work.
